Car Accident Checklist

1) Check to see if anyone is injured. Call 911.
2) Call the police to get them to create an accident report.
3) Take LOTS of photos.
4) DO NOT discuss the accident with the other parties.
5) DO NOT sign anything from the other parties.
6) DO NOT disclose how much coverage your policy has.
7) Get the other driver's information:
  • Driver's name
  • License plate number
  • Phone number
  • License number
  • Home address
  • Email address
  • Car year
  • Insurance policy company
  • Insurance policy's phone number
  • Other passengers in the car's names and phone numbers
  • Witnesses' names and phone numbers
8) Get the police officer information:
  • Name
  • Police department
  • Phone number
  • Police report number
9) Write down a description of the entire incident:
  • What time did the accident occur?
  • Where were you driving?
  • What was the weather conditions?
  • What were the road conditions?
10) Seek medical attention if you feel you might be injured currently, even if you feel fine now. Don't let the insurance company trick you into saying you are okay--the pain may not set in until later.
